"Quality designs for everyday things"

Our Story:

Independent designer Naoko Shibata founded id-a designs with one simple ambition: to better our world through quality design for everyday things.

A Tokyo native, Naoko has been immersed in the beauty of both traditional and modern Japanese culture. From Tea Ceremony and Ikebana, to the bleeding edge of design, fashion and music, the neon metropolis has given Naoko a uniquely Japanese taste. Interest in other cultures and travel abroad also influenced Naoko. Exposure to Rock n' roll, European fashion, and Americana charm further defined Naoko's design aesthetic, giving her a very global point of view.

Moving to the United States to study design and experience the culture, Naoko marveled at the level of self-expression the American people possess - an uninhibited freedom to stand up for what you believe in, to follow your dreams, and to make a difference. She recognized the opportunity to combine her Japanese design and fashion sensibilities with the freedoms and ambitions America embodies, and really do something better for the world.

Focused on creating usable, life-improving designs, with a keen attention to aesthetics, Naoko founded ID-A Designs to create products that balance form and function in perfect harmony. Underlying usability and fashion, ID-A Designs is compelled by the notion that good design can reduce our impact on the Earth's precious resources.
